Three tales
MHS supported the publishing of the three tales of Malmesbury and on Thursday 8th September the authors spoke about the books.
Before the talks a presentation was made to Ron Bartholomew in thanks of all he had done for the MHS shown below; it was he that got it launched and he has contributed such a lot to the understanding of Malmesbury's history. The presented book showed our appreciation and gratitude.
The authors spoke about what had driven them to write and publish the trio; The Doctor's tale, the Lawyer's tale and the Vet's tale. Together the three books present a history of Malmesbury over nearly the last century and illustrate the enormous changes that have occurred in the town and it's society. They are not too earnest, quite light-hearted in fact but show life as seen by three varied professionals. See picture right!
Ron Bartholomew spoke of Dr Hodge who came here in 1927 and has a lot to say about the war and the start of the NHS, then Jim Toogood and Roger Griffin spoke of their professional lives and interactions with the town
The three books are still available at the Athelstan Museum and to buy online on their website.
